If such a thing as wrist time-pieces/sundials existed, Gregor would be looking at his now. So, Gregor + horse = lets get going before the wolves turn up.[/color]

Bonnie and Owain convinced the others to wait for a few minutes while Owain ran to grab one of the crossbows, and Bonnie investigated the guard house on their side of the gate.
"Help Michael get on his horse," Owain ordered the others. The healer, though revived by his stimulant, was still looking sickly and pale, and Owain didn't want him re-injuring himself in some stupid fall.
I'm posting the results of Owain and Bonnie's search in their own threads.
Trenton helped Meldorac get up on his grey mare. As they made ready to ride Trenton pointed to something in the arena they'd left. it was an arrow, stuck in the ground, obviously one of the Drakkarim's missed bolts.
"An arrow splitting the road," Trenton said. "Old Wildland superstition. If you find an arrow stuck in your path, you should turn back from the road you're traveling. It can only lead to death."
When everyone gets back, you all have a decision to make. Oasis is still at least a day's journey away. You can continue on the road, or you can cut across country and enter the hills where Oasis is located.
The road path is longer, as the road curves around the hills, effectively doubling the distance. However, you can travel faster on road. Of course, so can any enemies that might be following you. The hill path is a straight shot to Oasis, and much shorter, but it's traveling across country and may be slow going. Of course, it's probably easier to throw off any trackers in the hills, especially as the ground is still marshy from the rain (so it masks smell, which is how Doomwolves track).
Think of this as one of those branching paths in the gamebooks. Whatever decision you make will drastically change what the next scene is.

When Owain returned from his search, he was clutching a crossbow. Unfortunately, he had a fresh wound in his shoulder and his face had taken a slight greenish tinge. "One of those archers wasn't entirely dead," he said, before bandaging his wound and mounting up.
If we take the road, we'll likely end up fighting more Drakkarim. Swamps tend to mean zombies and/or drowning. Let's go cross-country, it's time another kind of monster tried to kill us.

Meldorac shrugs and goes back to looking around to see what the others are doing.
"TThe camp was jumped from the woods while the road I checked was clear," hazarded the scholar, "perhaps the fastest route is best."
Meldorac votes for the road, but won't press the issue

"The road is open and controlled by our enemies. I vote for the hills, where we are more likely to met smaller units of the enemy and where we may be able to throw off pursuers. The road offer faster travel but since we no longer all have horses moving at speed, this may provide the enemy with the upper hand."

So the hills it is. Alright, then, the scene is officially ended. A new scene will come up soon. Now everyone gets EXP, yay! I'm awarding 5 EXP for killing the Commander, +1 for solving the riddle. Everyone also gets EXP equal to their combat score, since that was definitely a combat heavy scene.
Congratulations on passing your first real test!

So does that mean Owain gets 5+1+2 EXP? Nice. That would be enough to buy a new ability.

Sounds right to me! Enjoy! I hope it's not a backstabbing ability - get something heal-y!

There's an idea for a new ability on my board.
