This thread is just a little "think pad" for me to jot down ideas for new abilities I might like to buy before I forget about them. Having them stored online means easy reference. Zipp, you are welcome to comment but obviously you can veto anything before it is actually implemented in-game.

Mass Faithshield (cost: 10 EXP)
Effects: A less powerful Faithshield, but it can be cast on all selected targets within an area equal to 10 feet x the caster's MENTAL score. All targets must be visible. All targets gain +1 to TOUGHNESS for the duration of combat. Does not stack.

Hm, well Faithshield is already pretty awesome, so for me to allow you to cast it on all nearby and visible targets, a few things would have to change.
The main thing is that it wouldn't grant an automatic point of toughness. You'd have to succesfully roll to add bonus, and the roll would still be 18, 19, or 20.
As for charging, I'd almost rather have that be its own ability, which would allow you to "charge" any of your spells. What this would do is allow you to spend more rounds casting the spell, at a reduced DC based on how long you spend casting (for each round, the DC lowers by one).
Shooting the ball back to your side of the table, what do you think?

Hmm. How about if it always gave a one-point bonus for multiple targets with no roll permitted? That would prevent it from fizzling with no effect whatsoever, but also avoid the situation of everyone suddenly getting a +3 TOUGHNESS bonus as well as meaning the more powerful but single-target version would not be obsolete, allowing for more tactical options. Making charging a separate ability that could be used with any spell is an interesting tradeoff, especially as I am also considering what roguelikes call an "orb of draining" attack spell. Of course this is all purely academic if I spend all my points on not going mad (or just die).

Ah! I really like this new version you've suggested! Always +1 to everyone, but no more. Yeah, that keeps the first version around as a good tactic, and makes the new version useful but not ungodly.
Alright, with that, Faithshield 2 is approved if ever you want it ^_^

Lay on Hands (Cost: 10 EXP)
This prayer allows a Priest of Ishir to heal himself or an ally by an amount equal to his current MAGIC score. Requires physical contact.

That's really pretty powerful, considering you could heal an ally for 3 damage at least once every scene. Healing is more of a commodity in this game than a given. Consider that Michael's ability required an 18 to even heal one damage, and even that was really good, considering.

I think I would be willing to give you this ability, however:
At the end of a scene, you receive a number of "free healing" points equal to your current Mental score. This can be distributed about the party as you see fit.
That's less game breaking, since you could still get very hurt (or die) in combat, but it's still VERY good, as it does help people save their EXP for new abilities and the like.
I'm not quite ready to approve it yet, because I still think it's too powerful for this early in the game. There might have to be some kind of roll in there, too.

Never mind, I'll take what you suggested above (with whatever modifications you come up with). Can I use it now?

Okay, I'm gonna put a roll in there, but the DC will be significantly lower than the usual healing rolls. Let's say... DC of 13. We'll see how that works out.
As for using it now, I'm gonna be a little cruel and say "no." It will activate next scene.

What would you offer me if I spent 10 XP on upgrading my inter-scene healing ability? How about if I blew 20 points?
EDIT: I am also considering taking Mass Faithshield, but I would need some other use for my magic during combat, like some kind of offensive ability.

Mass Faithshield I'll let you propose an ability. For the healing one, I'd probably lower the DC needed to heal or add dice to the roll. That seems the most obvious step to take.
