Rushing in to the ruins, Sir Callum finds a badly burned man on the verge of death. A heavy crossbeam pins his legs to the ground and a pool of bloods seeps out from beneath him. Perhaps most shockingly of all, his eyes have been cut out. He is goraning softly.

Sir Callum has learned little in the arts of healing. Usually field wounds are sharper and more obvious. Sir callum remembers a fellow knight pinned below a horse once, but the man was already dead and required no aid.
"Steady man, we will help you!" says Sir Callum, painfully aware that in truth the man has little time. Surely his last moments should be of optomism though. And besides, if they can remove the beam maybe they can buy the man a few moments to communicate what has occurred
"Help me!" calls Callum to his companions, dropping his sword and shield and throwing his helmet to one side. He quickly moves to one side of the beam to move it gently but swiftly away.

Randal considers the man good as dead, but decides not to risk angering the deranged knight. He steps forward and does his best to help move the beam.

Try as you might, the beam does not move - it is just too heavy.
Suddenly the man coughs up some blood, then, in a panicked voice, says: "You saw them, yes? You must have! They came from the mountains to the west... We fought them though! Yes! But more.... more came....
"Many fled, many died... those who ran fell to the small demons... man-sized and golden. I don't... know where they took them... I hid! Too clever I was! Yes I hid!"
He coughs some more, and you sense he is very close to death. "What has happened to my garden?"
WIth that he breathes his last breath.

Randal shudders. "The mind of this poor wretch obviously snapped before the end, probably while his eyes were being gouged out. But I think there must have been an element of truth to his raving. We should search for evidence of these golden demons," he says. Randal walks over to Coll. "You are our tracker. What do you see?"

Sir Callum stand back partially aghast and partially to ensure no blood hits his armour now it is obvious the man is beyond help.
"'Walking demons' - it sounds as if we must fear foes on the ground as well as foes from the air. Taking people too, they have a purpose."
Sir Callum remembers himself, and looks about for his helmet, sword and shield. He wipes the dirt from each in turn and adorns himself once more. "Come," he says in a cold voice, "we must be away from here swiftly. Poeple need our help and there is evil to quash."
Callum looks to Coll expectantly.
