Are there any restriction for mastercrafting and superior crafting you want to apply? I'm going by RP feel for the character, yet realised - well, as an example, i decided my character would happily go with some non-proficiency armour and take the massive additional armour check roll handicap for being a tank mercenery in a chainmail waistcoat, and the minor one of studded armour over leather for when he's getting off the battlefield to the mission proper (kinda reflects how he feels out of his depth and so on so the extra protection and not being surprised by the restriction/penalties). Except superior leather could basically be as good as a chainmail wasitcoat so it seems stupid to take the penalties, even though that seems a valid penalty for upping the character's AC above normal so easily. Plus then, I could just use superior crafted higher armour and really be a tank! RP wise I can imagine over the years his scrounging a mastercrafted set of work armour/weapon, and going the extra distance to acquire or 'acquire' a superior weapon for off-battlefield use, but money wise I could just superior for the lot laughing merrily

No, you can buy Mastercraft and Superior items if you want, no problem there. Just go with what you feel most comfortable with, so to speak

OK, sorry to hijack this thread, but I have to say that Corwyn Malignus has to be one of the coolest names for a villain ever!

"No sir, it's just a surname. Surely there is nothing particularly malevolent about my poor family name. Why, my sweet, dear father would fall stone-dead on the spot, dying of the greatest of shames, were anyone to possibly think our simple family capable of any sort of evil."

I think Maerin is using he thing he often displays called 'wit' Funny, this remindsd me of a 4E demo podcast that the penny-arcade guys are doing. One of them, who has not played D&D ever took a mage, and called him 'Jim Darkmagic' of the 'New Hampshire Darkmagics'. The phrase 'it's just a name' did come up too, though sadly not in any roleplaying capacity. And yes, motion seconded for awesome name award and darn, now I have to rely on my own internal barometer whether I'm being stupid sticking to certain combinations Superior Chainmail Waistcoat and superior leather FTW!

Dirac, I can understand your reasons for sticking to a RP aspect for choosing, or not choosing, M'Wk/Superior items, but in the long run I think you'll find yourself wishing you had spent all your starting gold on whatever equipment you could.
Looking at your current AC, I can tell what your Dex and what Armour you are wearing. Compare yours to mine, you could probably tell what my Dex was, but you couldnt tell what else encompasses my AC. You could tell, however, that I am wearing some superior stuff.
also, having 2 sets of armour would give you massive delays in taking off and doning said armour, especially if you are carrying both around at the same time. The weight alone would negat pretty much any skill points you put into stuff that has armour check penaltys.
Dont get me wrong, I am all for RP'ing a character as much as possible, but it shouldnt come at the expense of restricting the class you have chosen.

Yes, nothing - my stats were pre-equipment. Parents shouting for your attention are distracting! Not to give anythign away about my dexterity...but ou can guess it i would guess My equipment list is finished, but I won't be able to total it up, distribute it and trim it until later, if then Two armours - i'll be comign for mthe battlefield, hence my 'work' clothes, for actually doing anything normal i have another set. It's in keeping with his character that he has a heavier set for merc work as in a grunt soldier. I am guessing he won't use the heavier stuff and two handed blade much, but still, depends on the mission. We don't know what is happening! I have a horse and a horse can carry enough weight. See what slavey says. If we have a safe house, this will be dumped there. If not, he certainly won't carry the heavy armour with him so it will be sadly wasted money that will be recouped asap from a passing merc I would remindd you slavey wants to not do much combat. Our AC might not matter much compared to how we look!

Considering I hear Taden ended up purchasing a wagon, two horses to pull it, and a third horse to ride, and "commissioned" a wagon driver for a one-year contract to drive the wagon, just to haul all his crap from place to place, I suspect that might set the upper benchmark of your group's...um....transportation considerations.

Yup, 13,000 is alotta gold for cool stuff unless you just invest in a jeweled set of shinies I have a burdened down nag and everything you could ever want for camping alone for a week on it. If i understand correctly, your wagon will meet my little horsie first and we can look smug about how much stuff we have together thn go off on a shiny adventure together helping darklanders!

I still have about 6K left, and can't carry any more. I don't even have any magical goodies!!! Ah yes, Dirac also sent me a PM about the need for wealth that is more portable than coins. You can buy gems and jewellery for it if you like; if you have access to the D&D DM:s Guide, you can always go by the prices for gems there. I don't have it right with me now (posting from work...) but if it is a problem, I'll get back to you later today.

Yes please do, Slavey. The only book I have is the LWRPG core book. But I don't see my character as the "bling bling" type.
