"Get away from him you BITCH!" "Fall back! I have this... thing!" says Mowyer, her previous blow giving her confidence and courage to destroy this foul abomination.
She again smashes the shield in to the creature and keeps it held high, and circles around infront of Aram to make the creature face her alone. She looks to find some human spark left in this creature - it must have desires or fears beyond the kill she can exploit.
While I still have points in the stat, can I use my Mental ability again to look for a weakness in the creature with my ability?

Combat rolls: Combat round against screamer (alone) (1d20=11, 1d20=18, 1d20=19)
Play the 18+11, then 19. With so many dice for the screamer, probably no point in trying to resist a switch up, just try to equal it. Similarly, all the saved dice would be burned in a switch up anyway I think. Let's see what can happen, a dodge roll next round may serve better.

Yes, that's what I was thinking last round. It does pay to save a number for the shield, but I felt it was better to use them all rather than play a 39. A monster with that many dice could easily play a number in the 40s or 50s.

Where'd Zipp go? I'd hoped we'd get another round in before my absence this weekend.

Maybe he used so much threat that the screamer came to life and devoured him??[/color]

Sorry, guys, I didn't realize it had been so long since I last logged in! It's been a blur the last three days... meetings for jobs, meetings for scripts, meetings to prepare for the Terminator film...Round Results"Get going!" Mowyer shouted to Aram. "I'll hold this one off!" Mowyer darted forward and slashed at the Screamer's face. In response, the creature spread its claws and drove them through Mowyer's shoulder, impaling her against the wall. Mowyer screamed in pain. Aram watched on in horror from the portal. He'd already started the machine... it was whirring to life... it was too late for him to do anything. At that moment, Aram heard a roar behind him. He just had time to turn and see Gertwiller diving for his back before there was a blast of electricity, and all went black. Mowyer was left alone in the room with the Screamer. Impaled as she was, there was little she could do. She waited for the final blow. But the Screamer was looking at her with a strangely vacant look on its face. After a moment it retracted its claws and shuffled backwards, looking around the room in an almost bored manner. It was as if, now alone with Mowyer, it had totally lost interest in the battle. Mowyer: 18+11, then 19 Screamer: 1, 10+10 (3, 11, 5)
Ouch... that's two wins for the screamer for a total of 7 damage... roll them toughness dice. If any time was a good one to use stress, now is probably it.
Fortunately for you... the Screamer seems hesitant to attack you this next round...

At first Mowyer kicks and screams frantically, as if a naught child being held by a chiding parent. However, the shock of the wound leaves her weak, and with half sobs she waits for the end, her sword drops from her shaking hand and her shield slipping out of her pinned one. She does not fully comprehend when she is released and falls to the ground shaking. Mowyer keeps shaking, feeling odd prickles in her lips, fingers and an odd tunnelling of her vision. She recognises she is in shock from her wound, and she probably does not have much time. Barely able to control her shaking hand, she gropes for the potion of Laumspur she still possesses. She hopes the numbing effect of it splashed on her wound, and the narcotic effect of the rest down her throat will break the cycle her brain has started, shutting her body down in a panic at her lowering blood pressure. Falling to the floor, she puts as much pressure as she can on her wound, fumbling with a strip of her cloak torn by the attack to stop the bleeding. What is left of her Laumspur she uses to soak the piece of clothing before the blood gets there first, hoping the miraculous elixer will work its powerful effect to clot her blood aswell. Mowyer's vision stops tunnelling, though the sick feeling of terror and pain does not fully subside. She knows she has managed to heal herself well enough, but that is no use if the foul creature before her... Mowyer slowly sits back up against the wall, and looks at the wretched thing as it paces around. The adrenaline and fear make her want to reach for her sword and stab at the thing, but Mowyer can find no answering hatred deep inside herself for such an act anymore. The thing looks too human female again with fleeting glances and expressions, and too miserable in its demeanour. Mowyer is torn between emotions, and very slowly she pushes aside her cloak, her good arm seeking her dagger. However, instead her hand diverts its path with Mowyer only half aware of what it is doing, towards her cloak's clasp. "Can you....can you hear me?" asks Mowyer, her voice trembling from effort and fear. Mowyer gentle rocks forwards, wincing in pain, and tries to dislodge her cloak from her shoulder one handed. "Can you understand me?" she asks again, painfully lifting herself up and offering the cloak. "I'm not -here- to hurt you," she continues, stifling a grimace from the movements, "if you do not wish me harm. You...you should take this. Your clothing is torn...you are not decent..." Right, so I think it goes down like this. Four points restored by use of the Laumspur instantly, which the nicely available as an action by the stopped screamer.
Toughness rolls (2 natural + 1mail) (1d20=8, 1d20=6, 1d20=18)
Ugh. Still, could be worse.
Re-roll one toughness die for one stress (1d20=8)
Ugh.
So Mowyer still takes two damage, which will be from toughness I think, and one more stress point.
And may or may not be about to find herself in a world of hurt! Still, you men and your fighting - have you ever though about the screamer's problems? Did you ever think she just summons zombies because she is lonely and wants someone to talk to her? I bet you didn't!

Bloody men! ;D
Thanks for the Faithshield reminder: Extra toughness die from Faithshield (1d20=14)
Oh well Not sure if it stays on when Owain is gone or not anyway...
Hmm, hope the Gert/Aram mix does not do Bad Things - Mowyer's portal lore would make her think yes - if she weren't too distracted to realise Gert is not around!

Answers!
Laumspur: go ahead and use it. I don't even remember you offering it to Gert. A lot happened in those moments. Faithshield: it's active until there is a break in combat Getting a Screamer on your party: not gonna happen
Mowyer's efforts to make friends fell on deaf ears. The Screamer ignored her completely, as if she didn't exist. Instead the abomination went to a corner of the room and squatted, letting its head sag. It appeared to be... sleeping...? In any case, Mowyer was fairly certain she wasn't going to be attacked again.

Mowyer is both put out and relived. Slowly putting her cloak on, and painfully getting up, she moves off to pick up her sword, and then after sheathng it her shield.
Still fearing some action of the screamer, and feeling an add sense of irritation and being ignored, Mowyer moves to activate the portal again.
She is feeling light headed, and the surreal nature of everything that is hapening and has happened does not help. It takes her a few moments to realise Gertwiller is gone aswel. as Aram. She gives a silent gasp of horror as she realises the brave knight and the odd man might have tried to go through together and become fused on the other side.
Mowyer concentrates on the portal so as not to throw up.
