"I suppose I have to be. You certainly don't know the way, do you?"
Jaspar raises himself with a supreme effort, and the two of you continue your way up the tower. Jaspar's pace has definitely slowed, but thankfully the screams behind you have halted, and you come across no soul, living or dead.
Finally you make it to a wide opening. You aren't at the top of the tower yet, but Jaspar stops and points through the opening where a huge bridge spans a chasm stretching between this tower and another one.
"That's our destination," he says. "Then we go down to the dungeons. That's where the generator is. All the fighting's on the lower floors, a suicide mission by Xaviee's group. That's how we got here without being spotted. Hopefully it's bought us enough time to get down to the generator, too."
You look at the bridge and your stomache does a little dance. The bridge is sturdy enough, but it spans a fall of nearly two hundred feet to stone battlements below.

"Very good, not long to go then we can get you patched up." Gregor look towards the bridge, keeping an eye and and ear out for anything that could be around. Hoisting the other with his arm, he kept balance using his spear as a walking stick. As the two approached the bridge, Gregor stopped and had a thought. "Lets just wait here for a second, you look like you could do with a breather." Letting Jasper lean against a wall, Gregor focused attention on the bridge. He wasnt leaving anything to chance. right what I want to do here is a kind of Sense Evil thing, like I did waaaaaay back at the beginning of Scene 1. Trying to look for any signs of an ambush or work out the structural integrity of the bridge, eg if it is more weak in the middle or at the sides or indeed if its trapped. I'll roll Mental.
1d20=19, 1d20=3, 1d20=8, 1d20=19, 1d20=2, 1d20=16
You really couldnt get more random a roll!! 3 success at whatever it is Im sensing for

The bridge doesn't seem trapped, and it is sturdy, though a sword could cut its ropes quick enough. You do sense that this is part of some mechanism, like the spikes, that can retract the bridge somehow. Noting this, you are able to spot a level on the wall above where you've sat Jaspar. Presumably that pulls the bridge in and there may be one on the other side, too.
You also sense something waiting on the other side and something coming up the stairs behind you very quickly.

Gregor gritted his teeth and looked towards Jasper.
"Well my friend, we have some choices it seems... We either stay here and die at the hands of whatever is coming up behind us, or we cross the bridge and get slaughtered by whats waiting for us at the other end. Oh, that assumes of course that no-one decides to trigger this little device here and just whip the bridge from under our feet!"
Gregor helped Jasper get up again. The look on the mans face said it all. If he had any sort of chance of surviving, they would need to get across the bridge.
"Stay on the side of the bridge and grasps hold of the rope. If the bridge does retract, then we'll have something to grab onto and wont just plummet to our deaths!"
Gregor was feeling joyfully optimistic, despite the situation. Perhaps it was the sudden realisation that they very well could die here that spurred him on. Gregor hefted his spear one hand and held onto the ropes with the other, then started to lead Jasper over the bridge. He tried to move quickly but also had to slow himself to set a comfortable pace for Jasper. Gregor kept his eyeline as best he could on the tower in front of him. He was expecting an ambush at any moment now. Under his breath, he murmured.
"Perhaps today is a good day to die..."

You have barely set foot on the bridge when the creature that was moving behind you appears. You whip around to face it and have a moment of extreme shock.
It's Sherri.
Seeing her brings back a flood of memories of what has happened to the party (though you still can't remember your reason for being here, except that you must complete what Meldorac had told you).
roll skill, this is for percpetion

1d20=15, 1d20=16, 1d20=1, 1d20=6
Im gonna reroll the 1 and the 6, cause according to those results Gregors gone "ooooh I know you" to "duuuuuuuuuh who turned the lights out" in a matter of seconds!
1d20=10, 1d20=15
Well thats better. I'll take 1 stress and divert the other with the pendant. Gregor jumped out of is skin at the sight of Sherri. "By the gods!! Sherri!! I thought you were....!!" He stopped and thought as the memories came flooding back. "The others... They... The Screamer.... They didnt follow me... The fools!!" Looking up at Sherri, Gregor grabbed her wrists and held them up, cupping her hands in his. "Sherri, tell me its you. Please tell me its you in there..." Gregor looked into the girls eyes, looking for some glimpse of humanity. He hoped beyond hope that she had come back. The alternative was unthinkable....

Something is definitely wrong. Sherri's hands are freezing cold, and she makes no sound in response to your yell. You notice, too, a nasty scar and swelling on her head. It's a very bad scar, like someone opened her head and sewed it up again.

"Ishir be spared, what have they done to you, girl!"
Gregor could feal the tears whelling up in him. How could he have let this happen to her!? All he had been thinking about was playing with new technologies, trying to find that damn Finger!! In doing so, he had lost his companions and now it seemed he had lost...
"Jasper!"
Gregor turned to the man slumped on the floor.
"Jasper, look! Look here! Have you seen this before??? What have they done to her!!"
The other groaned and gasped, trying to stand up. Gregor grabbed Jasper by the collar and roughly hoisted him up. Jasper was on his last legs, but Gregor didnt seem to notice, or even care.
"You tell me!" Gregor stared into Jaspers eyes. "You tell me how I can save her!!"

Suddenly Sherri's eyes swirl quickly to Jaspar and her body shakes violently. She lets out one of the terrifying cries you heard earlier and launches herself awkwardly at Jaspar. Her movements are extremely jerky and uncordinated, as if someone else is controlling her body from afar, but Jaspar is too injured to move out of the way fast enough. The two stumble out of the tower on to the bridge, where they grapple madly.

"What the- ?"
Gregor was taken aback by Sherris sudden action. At first he thought she'd gone mad, but noticing her movements he figured that she was acting not of her own will. Gregor decided to act; he had to save them both, if he could.
If something was controlling Sherri, then that something had to be close. Gregor took a gamble as he stepped onto the bridge. Testing its weight and waiting for a reaction, he stoped for a few moments and concetrated ahead. Not noticing anything happening, he started to move his way quickly across the bridge.
Passing the grappling couple, he slowed momentarily and yelled at Jasper.
"Dont kill her, for the love of the gods, please dont kill her! Just try and subdue her."
Gregor carried on to the end of the bridge. Hefting his spear in a charging motion, he mouthed a silent prayer that he was correct....

"Are you mad?" Jaspar shouts back. "Oh ye gods, was this a friend of yours?"
With a sudden movement, Jaspar twists free of Sheri's grasp and punches her squarely across the jaw. With a moan, she collapses just as you reach her.
"Well, she hasn't been turned, then," Jaspar says. "A single punch would never floor one of the plague carriers."
Before he can say more, danger screams at your senses. You can't see anything inside the tower, but you know someone is waiting across the bridge for you. Whoever is lurking on the other side of the bridge is preparing to collapse the bridge with a lever mechanism.

"Pick her up and hold on, this isnt gonna be easy! Get ready to run forward when I say so!" Gregor moved over to the right side of the bridge and wrapped his right arm around one of the rope supports. He had one chance at this, one chance to save them all. There was no way he could reach the tower in time, they would all be dead before they even set foot upon its stone. He could feel it there, waiting for them. The sick mind would give them all the hope in the world of reaching the other side, then at the last moment pull any hope of escape from right under their feet. Literally, in this case. Gregor positioned himself as best he could and held out his left arm, index finger pointing towards the tower doorway. One shot, he thought. This is aiming inside the doorway to the tower, at whatever might be there. Even if it flushes those out, that means Gregor and Jasper can basically leg it over the other side then start combat proper.
Lightning Hand, aiming inside of tower (1d20=13, 1d20=15, 1d20=5, 1d20=10, 1d20=3, 1d20=16)
Since Gregor is making a concentrated blast, if I need to add together numbers to make a combat roll, I'll add 13+15+5+10+16 to make 59, save the 3. Just in case you need something to roll against.

I really like the idea you have. It's a good one, and I'm going to let it work... at the cost of a stress.

Concentrating to the point of physical discomfort, you unleash your bolt of energy towards the far tower. Your efforts are rewarded with a terrible cry and something tumbles out of the doorway onto the bridge, clutching its face in pain. It looks a lot like one of the plague victims, though something strange has happened to his back... it almost looks like bone is jutting out of the back.
With a final cry, the man topples over the side of the bridge and disappears into the darkness below.
