No backpack, how many can I pocket or do I need to hold them?
Hmm, I'd say hide as close to the other door as possible, and as far away as the shelves as possible, and let them talk, but with 1 skill reduced to 0 skill can I actually do anything beyond basic stuff?

Well, if you wanted you could down the laumspur, throw away the handcuffs, keep the Rendalim's Elixir, and use skill to hide. Or you could run. You're almost at the end. If you run, you could probably make it to the portal before being caught. You wouldn't get to explore other hallways, but maybe you don't want to.
Unfortunately, you can only carry two items without a backpack, and you've already got rope and handcuffs. And the firebrand, though I'm letting you carry that in place of a shield for now. To carry the potions, you'd have to get rid of the rope and handcuffs, or drink one potion and get rid of one item.

Oh, I could drink the Laumspur right now? Still only one die.... Silently drop the handcuffs, keep Elixer, drink Laumspur, and try to hide - maybe I can hear something useful information wise. Otherwise prepare to run out the door if there's a hint of being spotted. Or even fight if more cornered. Actually, threaten Apothecary and use him as a himan shield if that happened. But hiding first. Skill roll to hide (1d20=19)Sweet Lord! One of my gambles paid off...maybe. Can I use insanity to make the effect more potent? I'm all about not running to the portal, and maybe finding out some useful information about what the frig is going on!

If you take 1 insanity, I'll rule that they simply won't find you, and you can overhear any conversation they have. Good roll.

I was surprised myself! And expecting to have messed up! 1 insanity taken.
The decision to go to the apothecary definitely was a good one in some ways. She started feeling the guilt at not meeting up with Charles almost immediately. Now the initial shock and hurt of the lift was fading and replaced with normal ache, sshe flashed back to the guard's death. Charles had obviously been forced to kill one of his own - one of their own - to help her. Had he managed to escape? What would they do to him?
He would surely be fighting to reach the portal himself the long way, and if he succeeded and did not find her, how much of a slap in the face would it be if she then arrived slightly later having gone 'shopping' first.
Mowyer tried to make her search brief, deciding on only concentrating on the obvious place for healing items. Her own guilt and a feeling of being watched were building, and she felt herself shaking in fear for herself, her brother, and the dawning realisation of how real and dangerous and strange this situation was.
And she almost found relief as she applied some Laumspur to her wounded face, and made space for a lucky find of Elixer. She could go meet, she hoped, with Charles now and together they could figure out this mess.
However, the terror was not allowed to fade, her guilt was not allowed to be released. Suddenly guards and the apothecary appeared, and she cowered behind the nearest table. No! The apothecary had some mental power, it was him she had felt watching her!
She felt her heart beating fast, and she just froze, unable to make her legs move towards the door. They would find her, and worse find Charles. She should not have stayed, she had messed up again instead of doing her duty. Maybe her family was right about her...

As a total aside, does Mowyer know how to activate the portals herself?

You start to eke your way towards the door. You're almost there when something the guards are saying catches your ears. They're talking about your family! Sylvaria (your mother), and your two brothers, Charles and Jason.
You stop to listen.
Guard 1: I wouldn't want to cross Sylvaria. Heard Hector mentioned deserting and... Gaurd 2: That's right, he asked me to go with him. A bunch of the boys were all for it. Guard 1: ... and they're all dead now. Guard 2: We don't know that for sure. Herbmaster: Will you quiet your babbling! Someone's been through my stores! Guard 1: Oi, look here, you can't talk to us like that! We're members of the guard! Guard 2: That's right, just get your equipment and come on. Charles has been wounded and Sylvaria would not be happy if her son died under your watch. Guard 1: What a family, eh? Charles leads his sister into the Citadel, tells her he's gonna help her escape, but it's all a trap, innit? Guard 2: That's right. But then, look at Jason. Heard he went over to the rebels. That family has no loyalty to anyone but themselves. Herbmaster: Best watch your tongues, lad. I doubt Lady Castle would take it kindly to know you're talking behind her back like that. Guard 1: and you watch your tongue, old man, lest I chop it off before it can waggle! Herbmaster: Eh, I need some other things. My pack is by the door, I'll just be a minute.
You briefly debate taking the pack, but your instinct tells you not to push your luck. You bolt from your hiding place and escape out the door, sure you've been spotted, sprinting back towards the converging hallway.
Luck is apparently with you, however. You hear no signs of pursuit.

Thanks for making all my insanity sacrifice and my lucky cool rolls mean something!
Oh yeah, and WOW! Totally did not spot that plot twist happening! Hmm, so Charles evil, and Jason good? Ooooooh!
I reckon Mowyer will still go along with Charles's letting her portal jump, but now it sounds like whatserface, the 'rogue' councilor, is the one to side with against Mowyer's family and the council! And the Darklands army, or course!
Ok, so yeah, let's run towards the portal, do a portal jump, and partake in siege of Zombies with the group. I wonder if they will distrust me now I'm a 'nice' character? ;D

So I take it you are heading for the portal and not examining the other hallways?

Hmm...
I decided the stress points were also her guilt at not instantly going to the portal, and even contemplating exploring the new passage. So that was the plan, go straight to the portal. But you are riigt. Now that she knows her brother is a down dirty liar and she apparently has to 'escape', and he will no doubt be safe at the portal once he is fixed up ...
Mowyer slows her pace as she reaches the intersection. Her heart stops pounding, and she takes a tentative step down the hallway towards the portal. Then she stops, slowly drops the brand so as not to create a noise, then hugs her abdonmen with both arms as she bends over as if in pain, tears sparkling her eyes.
However, almost as soon as the wave of great sadness hits her, a wave of anger rises back up to replace it. She grits her teeth and lifts her head up proudly. She takes a step back and looks down the unknown passageway, blinking furiously.
Let her brother feel some fear and worry for his sister. That she may have been accidentally killed, or may have discovered the plot. Let him feel some terror that the plot he and their thrice damned mother have cooked up may be for nothing. Now she knows her brother will be waiting when she goes to the portal room. Wounded and with a face filled with concern, for his own reasons.
Let him wait. Mowyer needs some time to process, to let the anger burn colder and brighter, or else she may well break down when she sees him. That or murder him where he stands.
For now, she decides to see what other dark secrets this place has she was not aware of...
Poor Mowyer, first physical and mental damage, and now emotional damage too! And this isn't even the scene start! Anyway, let's check out the unusual passage after all! ;D
Oh, and Mowyer wil pick the brand back up in her off hand in case she needs light, but draw her sword in her main hand incase of trouble
