I know we're not QUITE finished with character abilities yet, but I wanted to go ahead and post your secret goals and history while I had a moment.
Think of this thread as your PM thread. We'll mostly use this to keep track of secret rolls, information, and events.
Without further ado, your history, sir.
You are the son of one of the high druids of Ruel. Your father was a cruel man, but he found delight in shaping someone in his image, and you tried your best to please him for a few scraps of affection. So have you become who you are today: a loyal peon of the Ceners.
Imbued with the knowledge of your father, you progressed in your studies faster than your contemporaries and have gained the attention of your superiors. It was with your steady growth in mind that they choose you for your current mission.
The merchant city of Oasis has been struck by plague, and in response the king has sent a party of investigators to the city to try and figure out the cause. As usual, the Ceners are ahead of the game, and they already know more about the plague than anyone in the King's court.
This plague distorts the mind and bodies of the living, twisting them into powerful monsters intent on devouring anything uninfected they come into contact with. It even has the power to briefly animate the corpses of those it has claimed, though these plague zombies die within a day. The plague is easily spread through saliva, sweat, and blood. A mere touch can be enough to transmit it. It is highly virulent, and without living flesh to feast upon, burns out in a matter of days.
Obviously, this is no ordinary disease. It has been twisted by a powerful and evil artifact kept within the center of Oasis. Though it's exact nature is unknown, this artifact is assuredly empowering the disease, and the Ceners want it.
They also see this as an opportunity to spread chaos through Sommerlund. If this plague were to make it back to Sommerlund and allowed to infect the populace of any of the cities near the capital, let alone Holmgard or Toran, there would be a glorious reign of pandemonium.
To these ends, they sent two other Cener agents to infiltrate the group of investigators and make their way inside Oasis. One was to retrieve the artifact, another was to ensure that at least one of the investigators became infected and made it back to Sommerlund. He was also to prevent the creation of any kind of cure. Your job was to keep an eye on these two and their progress without making contact with the group.
Things haven't quite gone as planned.
First of all, one of the agents was captured, and the fool let slip at least some of the plan to the mages of Toran. That the mission wasn't called off means at least one of the investigators knows of the Cener infiltration and is probably meaning to stop it.
As for the second agent... no-one in the party matches his description. Either the little brat is exceptionally good at the skills of disguise or your intelligence is faulty.
You've kept good track of the party using a trapped spirit to spy for you. It was this spirit which frightened the merchant at the inn the first night of the journey and caused his heart attack. In any case, no longer sure of the success of the mission, you made plans to infiltrate the party yourself. After all, to do something well, you have to do it yourself.
Your goal is two fold. You must retrieve the artifact. You must make sure one of the infected party members makes it back to Sommerlund. Keep in mind that you come from a strong position of power in this mission. You know more about the plague than anyone on the party. You also know one of them is the other Cener agent. And two can work better than one, if you can locate him. Ultimately he, like the other party members, is expendable. They'd make for good studies of the plague's effect. Also a good study of the psychological effect of stress on a group.
Early on in your mission, you caught and killed a knight you found on the road. As the man's eyes turned to mush from the infection you gave him, you stole his armour and weapons and horse and have gone disguised as a knight of the realm since. Your excuse for coming across and joining the party will be that your sister lives in the city, and hearing of the plague in the king's court, you've come to rescue her.
As the party enters the marshy hills, you follow...
A summary of your goals: Find the artifact in Oasis which caused the plague. Also make sure at least one of the party members and makes it out of Oasis and back to Sommerlund to spread the plague. If you can find some other method of spreading the plague, that works, too.
Keep in mind that another Cener is on the team, if you want to spend the effort and risk to find out who it is. Also keep in mind that while the plague can be twisted inside yourself to become power, it can also kill you if you're not careful.
Still, coming back from your mission more powerful than ever before might finally convince your father to promote you to the upper echelons of the druids.
