Out of the darkness, you see a sudden light, and a knight dressed in blue armour approaches you out of it.
"Greetings, friend priest!" the knight makes you a bow as best he can in armour. His helmet under one arm, he stares at you, lips set tight under a heavy beard. After a while he speaks again. "To leave here, you have to go towards the light. Definitely do not go towards the sound of wind blowing, it will carry your soul away. The princess will try to tell you to go that way. She always lies. The bard is the one you want to listen to, though he sometimes mixes truth and lies. Him and your knight, Sir Aram. Sir Aram has been to Oasis many times, but he has no sister."
The knight bows again and disappears.

You recognize this scene as being from the tapestry! As you make the discovery, you suddenly feel very disturbed. You have the realization that you are still staring at the tapestry. Suddenly you feel a pain in your gut and your head and the sensation of vomiting. You become aware that something is coming out of you, something thick and black. It doesn't want to leave, and it hurts as you expel it from your body, more than any pain you've ever felt before, for this is a mental pain, almost like a psychic attack.
Take 2 points of insanity. If you roll mental and get 1 success (DC 15), you may lower this by one.
You are back in the hallway, if you ever truly left it. The room is lit dimly by the light of your candle, though it casts many shadows. Before you are the others. They do not notice you. They are staring blankly at the tapestry in the hall, the one depicting the battle you just saw. They seem oblivious to the world around them.
The roar from earlier sounds again, this time much closer, as if the creature is already in the house and looking for you.

Yeah, I probably should've clarified. I shouldn't post at 4:00 in the morning. You have broken free of the spell. The others are still being held by it. The illusion is that the are on the battle plain, when it's really all just a powerful hallucination. Post here what you do.

Owain grabs Meldorac and shakes him bodily, trying to rouse him from the illusion.

Okay, so in a minute, things are going to heat up for the trapped companions. Your attempts to free them in this thread will allow them to make mental checks to break the illusion. The more inspired your actions here, the better their odds. And, the odds will improve naturally the longer you make attempts.

Or I could just abandon the group to whatever monster wants its dinner and try to find a way to torch the city. But that seems more like something Meldorac would do.

It's true, you could ^_^ It's ALMOST advisable. The game would go on. There's a chance the others would free themselves, or be killed and roll new characters... or you might flash burn the city and end the game 20 scenes early ^_^

However, this scene sounds like too much fun to ignore. So is there any effect from shaking Mel?

Mel performed very badly on his mental roll
You might as well be shaking a tree or a stone statue for all that Meldorac responds to you. He simply continues to stare blankly at the tapestry. His skin is cold and clammy to the touch.
You hear the roar again, and the whole floor shakes. Has the creature made it inside, or is it still fighting against the door. You suddenly remember the broken windows and look back to check on this easy path of entry into the house. To your surprise, you notice the windows aren't broken at all... or rather, a small pane of glass has been knocked loose, and the darkness plays at its edges. But definitely the windows are not shattered.
You wonder... how much of what you've witnessed has been an illusion?

Owain tries pulling the tapestry down from the wall. Perhaps it is the source of the illusion that has his companions ensorcelled.

On second thought, I think this might be a bit drastic. Can I examine the tapestry again first?

Sure, just post what you want to do. Are you looking at the scene, at how the tapestry is mounted...?

Owain peers at the tapestry to see if anything about it has changed, before turning his attention to how it is affixed to the wall.
