Unsure if the beasts are tracking sound or movement, Owain firmly grasps Mowyer's hand in case she panics and tries to run. Instead, he slowly, slowly puts one foot in front of the other and tries not to scream.

Mowyer will follow suit.

So, question time. How are you two planning to find your way across the room? Tactically speaking. Convince me.

From what we've been told so far, the zombies seem unable to track us by sight, scent or by detecting body heat. That leaves hearing and motion sensing as their tracking methods. Assuming we don't want to just stay put and eventually get eaten, we'll need to risk a certain amount of movement. We have whatever light is provided by Faithshield to hopefully see any obstacles, and Mowyer has a general idea of where we need to be heading. So I would suggest that we continue moving very slowly towards the exit and hope we do not move so quickly or noisily that we are detected. Any better ideas?

The two made their way as carefully as they could across the room, jumping every time one of them bumped into a piece of stone or whenever a shadow moved past them, breathing heavily, but otherwise ignoring them.
Owain estimated they were about halfway across the room when they heard the giggle of a small child.
"Now this isn't very much fun, is it Samantha?"
"No, Reilly, it isn't. Make them play!"
"Okay, then. What shall I make them do?"
"Well, they ARE holding hands. Why don't we see how much they really like each other?"
"Hee hee, okay, that sounds fun. Alright priest man... kiss her. Hee hee, kiss her and show us how much you care about her."
"Hee hee, and if you don't, we'll show everyone where you are."
"And that will be so much fun... but not for very long."

Owain felt Mowyer's grip slip and then a dagger in his gut. "Do not even try it," she hissed. She draws her sword and manoeuvers herself in to her shield
Mowyer had actually drawn weapons in both hands, I lost track of the narrative a little at work and forgot to say when she someow grabed Owain's arm! So I hope I get the narrative license to have Mowyer draw a dagger on Owain, then have Mowyer get her sword and shield back out
Mowyer will stand infront of Owain to let him keep moving out the room while she backsteps following him.

Owain flinches as Mowyer breaks the silence. Not being one to argue with a dagger in the gut, he makes no move to kiss her. Only fifteen or so feet to go...
Is Magnamund on metric or Imperial measure? The cylinder puzzle was in metres.

There is a child's silvery laughter, and the voices start speaking again:
"I think they've chosen their game, sister Reilly.
"Oh indeed they have. This WILL be fun."
Mowyer ignored the voices. She was almost at the door, she knew it. She could even see the doorway, and a bit of hazy light marking a hallway on the other side. She could also hear shuffling and moaning behind her. With a deep breath she calmed herself and walked the last few paces and... she was through.
She was in a hallway. It was well lit compared to the utter darkness of the room she'd left and her eyes took a few seconds to adjust. With a thankful sigh she turned to Owain as the voices began again:
"If you don't care for the priest, how about a new playmate?"
Where she thought Owain had stood was Gertwiller, still burnt and dead, but grinning at her.
"Thought you'd leave me behind, love?" he said, and chuckled. Then he drew a sword and attacked.
You are in combat with Gertwiller. He has 15 health, rolls 4 dice and does 3 damage.
Meanwhile, in the room, Owain felt someone grab his hand and begin to lead him. He assumed it was Mowyer, for he could hear her voice, telling him they were almost there.

Mowyer's shock at Owain disappearing was replaced by anger. "You do not know me," she said to the thing and attacked. Her anger was a displacement however, distracted as it really was towards the children. A child of Citadel had to set an example. That a pair of brats should dictate to Mowyer, who had endured a dark cupboard for too many evenings, with impunity was too much. She would kill the treacherous Gertwiller, a loathe enemy even in death, and then teach those two a lesson they would not soon forget. Unluckily for Gertwiller, Mowyer still had the scene of his death burned in to her memory, when she had thought it was Aram who lay dead. The unnatural twists of limbs, the weakened areas of armour where the explosion and the fusing had buckled the plate. Such a painful sight at the time now became a roadmap of all of Gertwiller's biggest weaknesses. And finally Gertwiller had revealed the biggest of all - he still had an arrogant consciousness guiding his actions, a very exploitable weakness when Mowyer could make herself stop shaking in anger and terror combined. Mental roll to assess Gertwiller (1d20=16, 1d20=2, 1d20=18, 1d20=16)
well, I'm hoping that two 16s and an 18, combined with a very reasonable excuse for Mowyer being able to exploit Gertwiller n combat, gives me some extra damge or an extra combat die or something!
Combat rolls versus Gertwiller, round 1 (1d20=11, 1d20=14, 1d20=7, 1d20=4, 1d20=10, 1d20=9)
I've taken the liberty of rolling a sixth die. If I get it, I'll play the 9 first and save the rest.
Otherwise, it's 11+14+4, and save the other two

Owain continued following Mowyer, allowing her to lead him by the hand.
OK, as a player I know Owain is wandering to his doom, but going by the wording of the update my character seems none the wiser. Can I roll MENTAL to try and make him cotton on to the danger?

Gertwiller laughed with glee as he raised the broadsword that had once belonged to Aram and tried to bash Mowyer's head in. Gertwiller: 9, 10+14+11 Pitting that against yours, it's a tie! So we both take damage. That's four to you, and... how many to Gertwiller? Great description, by the way. That definitely earns you an extra die, and an extra damage, let's say.
Owain, you can definitely roll Mental to figure out what's going on. And a good descriptive prose will help you, as well, if you can explain how Owain might suspect.

A flicker of doubt crosses Owain's mind. Previously, Mowyer had held his right hand with her left to keep her weapon hand free, as she had demonstrated with her dagger moments earlier. However, there was now a right hand holding his left. MENTAL roll (2, 7, 7, 13, 18)

That would be five damage in total - 1 +3 for sword +1 bonus.
Hmm, guess I need some toughness rolls: Toughness rolls (2 +1 armour +1 shield for a saved number) (1d20=5, 1d20=13, 1d20=14, 1d20=1)
Bah, no help whatsoever. I think I'll use rendalmin's elixer to prevent all four of the damage.Mowyer remembered her training, and bent low so that she could absorb the remainder of the overshot blow on her shield while making her own stabbing attack with her sword. Unfortunately, Gertwiller was unnaturally strong, and the broadsword a powerful weapon. She buckled as the force of the blow flowed down her arm, and worse yet twisted it so her old wound was ripped open painfully. In fury and fear she pushed under the blow. Now that Gertwiller was slightly off-balance to her bent stature, she could easily slide under his defenses. She stabbed with precision right into the weakened area of armour which should cover his heart. In a lesser opponent, death should have occurred. To the thing Gertwiller was, it was more psychological damage, surely. Mowyer used her adrenline and remaining strength to tug the sword free in the direction of another weak seem in the armour. Gertwiller's body was ripped open grotesquely, but hopefully in a way that may actually inconvenience him. "You have barely opened an old wound," Mowyer lied with a mocking voice, "while you yourself look the worse for wear. And look what I can do," Mowyer took a step back and to the side, taking advantage of both the weaker twisted limb of Gertwiller and also the hinderance of his new wound. As he tried to turn to face her, she had enough time to fumble the Rendalim's Elixer at her belt to her hand. She simply smashed the top on the wall close, and lucked that no loose glass reached her mouth as she drank. She let half give her a warm strength, and splashed the other half on to shoulder where the wound had reopened. Whatever minerals and herbs were in the elixer worked their magic again - her shoulder heated up painfully where there was blood or skin exposed, but at least the blood gummed up due to some reaction known only to the most skilled apothecaries. Mowyer threw the broken vial at her enemy in derision. "If you could not best me at full strength, how do you expect to best me as I carve you up? Perhaps you should retreat now, or look to ending your life fast by destroying the brats who animated you, and made you a pathetic puppet for my amusement!"

Gertwiller's laugh froze on his lipless grin as Mowyer tossed the remnants of her potion in his face. He let out a cry of anguish as the remains of the healing potion worked its way into his charred bone. While he was distracted, Mowyer batted his blade out of the way and drove her own blade into his neck. He wrenched free quick enough, but Mowyer was pleased to see the wound bleed... though it was a sickly black colour. Gerty: 18+11, 1 (5 saved)
Yeah, you can keep the extra die. Wow, we're really matching rolls. Too bad I played that 1... damn. Well, that's 2 for you, plus your... 4 was it? Good job! I'm impressed. I'm going to give you a chance at a finishing move here. What it requires from you is a good description detailing the incapacitation as well as an expenditure of three stress. It will end the fight at once if you choose this.
invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2110897/Meanwhile, Owain had a scare when he looked closer at the hand holding his, and realized it was half rotted through. With a cry he drew back. Whomever's hand he was holding didn't make a move to restrain him, and Owain was left alone in the darkness. He heard another girlish laugh. "Play with us, Mr. Priest man," a voice said. "One of us knows the way out, after all." Out of the darkness, two children, both of them female and twins, appear and smile at you expectantly. Did you ever get to see the twins from Mason's house? You as a player can probably guess that this is who these two are, but I can't remember if Owain ever saw their bodies.
