Aside from the obvious goal of freeing your hand, you've begun to think towards the bigger picture. Oasis is not as easy to traverse as you thought it would be. If there are more creatures like that Screamer wandering about, you'll be hard pressed to find the artifact and flee with your own life, let alone a plagued companion.
You reach into your soul and concentrate. You are now at infection level 9. The plague has started to take root within you. An idea strikes you. If you can begin to control the infection within you, you might be able to pass it on to another. Even better, this plague is so deliciously powerful, you could probably pass on some of your inner corruption to another as well, slowly bringing them over to your cause. If you can create enough lackeys, then getting the artifact shouldn't be a problem.
Your goal, then, is to begin infecting one of the party members when you find them, or any NPC. Infecting an NPC will open you up for EXP. Infecting a party member will open you up for more, while converting a party member to the cener cause through words and your corrupting influence will gain you even more and work towards your ultimate goal.

How does spreading the infection work? Is touch required? Will the person being infected (or anyone else around) notice? Do I need to get someone alone to infect them?

I figured we'd come up with a method together, sort've like a new ability.

Touch is a good method of transmitting the infection (and corruption). Let's go with that. It would be kind of cheesy to be able to infect someone just by looking at them, and sneezing on them isn't exactly subtle. It should work whether I touch the target or s/he touches me.

Okay. So that's the method you'll use to transport it. I'm going to say you have to be touching skin to skin. It doesn't transmit through clothing or armour. There should also be a key sentence you use when you're doing this so I'm aware. Something subtle, yet noteworthy.
Also, we'll have to develop a mechanic to surround the transmission. I suggest that you yourself lose plague, or essentially spend plague, to both transmit and maintain your corrupting influence

Yes, that sounds good. I transfer infection points from myself (currently 9) to the victim new loyal follower.

There will also have to be some affect on the player, of course. We can work out the rest of the details, I think, when you first do it.

One quick post before I leave. I think corrupting the other three PCs should be worth at least 24 Exp. My reasoning is that you said that infecting a PC is worth more than infecting an NPC. If you only get 1 Exp per corruption point for doing it to an NPC, then you should get a minimum of 2 per point for doing it to a PC. I gave each of them 4 points, and 2 x 3 x 4 = 24. Some sort of combo bonus for getting all three of the other PCs in a very short span of time might be in order here, but that's up to you.
I also think I should get some bonus Exp for the combat, where I took out the undead Drakkar in a single blow and then landed that impressive finishing blow on the Gourgaz.
