You all know what this thread is for Just waiting for Lukav to finish his character sheet then we can begin. The first week or so could be a little slow due to some members RL commitments, but we should move into full swing after that!

Can I ask about languages. Personally, I don't like the Northspeak from the RPG, but are we using it or not? If not, it'll be interesting to discover whether we all share a common tongue, and if we don't that could be even more fun. Lukav is speaking heavily accented Durenese so far - he fairly clearly isn't Durenese himself.

Yeah, languages are problematic in a game like Lone Wolf, especially multiplayer games. I would like to think it is safe to assume that, within the party at least, everyone is able to understand each other in some way, shape or form, whether you literally understand each other, or whether someone is able to translate for someone else.

So is that a 'No' to Northspeak? Obviously, known languages will largely depend on which languages are spoken in your country, which are spoken in neighbouring countries and then which countries you have spent time in or which peoples you have associated at length with. I'd guess that our party's most likely common language would be Sommlending/Durenese due to us having a Sommlending, a Durenese and a Cloeasian (neighbour of Durenor) present. If Randal and Dirk can think of good reasons for them to know Sommlending/Durenese then I suppose that makes it easier (though I have played in a game where my character didn't understand the majority of what was being said by the party and that was quite fun).

The idea of characters being unable to communicate with each other on a forum - based RPG beggars belief. It might work in a tabletop environment, but on here I prefer to assume all the characters share a common tongue/have had Babel fish implanted/whatever. I thought the idea of this game was to get away from the complexities of LWd20, not emulate them.

Yes, non-verbal communication on a forum might be kinda daft! Trying to describe what sort of hand-signals you might make to each other to get over the language gap is a bit of a non-starter! ;D
No, we should have a common language; I'm just wondering which one.
In a general sense, if we at some point in the future range far afield, the possibility that we get into a situation where only the least charismatic, most antisocial character can communicate in a critical situation is quite entertaining.
'Now remember, when you speak to the king's aide, be courteous and polite - we need his help.'
'Yeah, don't worry: I'll be courteous and polite. But if he looks at me funny, I'll hit him!'

Again.
I may as well just move in!

Lol, yeah, but for two totally different reasons. Heh, as it is the same time period, you might run into yourself! Don't make eye contact, you other character isn't very nice! Plus remember everyone, one does not simple... walk...into V'Ka. At the very least we are going to need some form of multi-classed BCS / Kai. Or a bear with lasers attached to his head.

... I hope you aren't disappointed with my version of V'Ka (I didn't realize some of you had been there in other games....)

DH, in the WW thread on TotS, had his NAK character go to V'Ka and resurrect a darklord. He didn't dwell too much on the area itself or the place, so it's totally wide open! And please, don't resurrect Xog - unless you have a Soul Weapon, that's not conducive to long life
