The Kraan and its riders land on the track barely ten feet from where you are hidden.
The Giaks leap from the scaly backs of the Kraan and move towards you, their spears raised to strike. You have been seen.

Random number would have been: 7Confident that he had concealed himself effectively in the undergrowth, Swift Otter is frustrated by the lesser skills that some of his fellows wield out in the woods. As the vile winged beast descends, screeching notice that it has spied them, his mind briefly ponders whether he wouldn't be safer making his way through the forest alone, if perhaps remaining undetected on the long journey to the capital wouldn't be easier by himself, the lone survivor of the massacre of the Kai.... But such hazardously indulgent thoughts are swept from Swift Otter's mind by the sight of the kraan landing. He has never seen one of these flying spawn up close before - they have never been more than occasional, ominous silhouettes glimpsed from the Monastery towers, far distant in the western skies - and the sight is truly horrifying, a hideous corruption of nature, all beak and tongue and teeth and claws and tail and green-brown pustular hide. The more immediate threat, however, are the two squat figures scrambling to jump down from the kraan's back: giaks. These are barely more familiar a foe than the kraan, but at least one which their Kai tutors always stressed would most likely be faced by the acolytes sooner or later and so have somewhat prepared them for. Swift Otter recalls that a giak's one redeeming feature is supposed to be stupidity and so, hoping that he might remain unnoticed behind his more obvious brethren, he makes to move around the giaks to the rear of both them and the kraan. Sorry, kind of went off on one there.
Erm, random number for Camouflage whilst sneaking along: 9

Sun Snake curses the twist of fate. Dropping his axe to withdraw his sword and unsling his shield, he rushes out from cover. Sun Snake is determined not to see another fellow Kai fall dead today, even though he has never fought a foe such as this before. First round of combat, Giaks (1d10=6)

Raging Stallion jumps out of his hiding place with a roar and heads straight for the nearest Giak. Launching a psychic attack with Mindblast, he swings his warhammer forward as he attempts to smash its brain in. 1d10=8

With one blow Raging Stallion crushes the skull of the first Giak, splattering blood and ichor everywhere.
Sun Snake rushes toward the other Giak, his sword held aloft. With one swing he strikes the spawn a mighty blow, but the Giak still doesn't go down. In return the Giak's spear grazes Sun Snake: Lose 1 Endurance.
Running Bear is close on the heels of Sun Snake and, seeing the blow his companion has struck, he moves in to finish the job. He smashes the Giak in the face but, like Sun Snake, suffers a minor wound: Lose 1 Endurance.
The two Giaks now dead, the Kraan takes to the sky, screeching warnings to the other Spawn in the area.

Raging Stallion spits on the bodies of the fallen Giaks, then cleans the goo off of his weapon. Mindfully of the Kraans cries, he makes a quick search of their bodies, hoping to find any useful information.
OOC, search the giak bodies

Sun Snake looks with distaste at the icor on his sword, and with distress at the mark from the giak spear. He gingerly touches it and feels his own blood. However, hos companions are moving, and he focuses on retrieving his axe and looking around the clearing for the best direction to follow. He especially looks for any tracks made by foes - the better for them to avoid such creatures again! Tracking Test if needed (1d10=1)

"We have to get away from here," says Swift Otter. "If our tutors have taught us true then the mount is as likely to find others to hunt us down as the riders, so we must go. Those of us that can should cover our tracks for some distance so that they'll not be able to follow us should they return here."

Running Bear's arrow pierces the Kraan's leg. It screeches but flies on, warning it's companions.
Although there are tracks on the ground, Sun Snake is unable to determine what they belong to and how long they have been there. Fierce Kanu, however, can tell they belong to darkspawn and are no more than an hour old.
Apart from their spears, Raging Stallion finds 4 Gold Crowns on the bodies of the Giaks.
Taking stock of the situation, you are still in the woods, heading south east towards Holmgard. You can still hear the cries of the Kraan in the distance.

Running Bear looks down at the Giak he and Sun Snake slew. Though trained from infancy as a Kai warrior, he has never killed before. However, remembering the twisted and charred corpses of his friends and tutors strewn around the shattered ruin of his home is enough to banish any remorse he might otherwise feel. "Aye, we must keep going or be hunted down," he says grimly, moving back into formation with his brothers.
