"No, we are not from Oasis," says Aram. "Aside from the two of us, there is a wizard. I do not think he has followed us upstairs. We had a few other companions, but they have gone missing after we got separated from them. What is your name?"

"You can call me Gertwiller. Forgive me, but I don't go on first name basis with those I am not familiar with. Especially outsiders," he adds with a bit of a sneer. "I guess that by missing, you mean your companions are dead. You do know what's going on in this godforsaken city, don't you? I hope so, because I didn't come here on just a whim. I was being chased. The mob will be here soon."
As if to mark this last point, in the distance they all heard a scream, the same scream that the woman who had held Aram in the alleyway had made. The scream was joined by several more.

"Yes, we've run into a mob before," says Aram. "One of our companions led some of them away, but she may still be alive somewhere. I do not hold out much hope for the others." He glances back to make sure that Gregor hasn't followed them before continuing. "To be blunt, I do not trust the mage. Both of the others disappeared mysteriously while alone in his company, and now he claims to not remember anything that has happened since we set foot in Oasis. We've learned some of what is happening in Oasis the hard way, but we are still not clear on why. In any event, we must prepare. I am still wounded from the last battle I fought. Any Laumspur would be greatly appreciated, but I am still capable of fighting even now. Is there a safe route out of this place, in case we must retreat?"

"Sounds like you're in as much trouble as I am, then. The area around here is filled with the victims of the plague. They are more active at night, and now that the alarum has been raised, they will converge on this place in the hundreds. We have little time. I only came here to see if I could get the portal working. If I can, we'll be safe. At least until we can get to the front gates. I'll be damned if I'm staying in this city, no matter what Citadel orders."
Finally Gertwiller lowers his blade.
"Laumspur? I have none on me, but surely there is some in this place. These Wayhouses were well stocked. They were meant to be secured against emergency. I do have some Ectisole root. It's a plant native to these hills, not as potent as Laumspur, but chewing it should better facilitate the healing processes."
Pulling a root out of his pocket, Gertwiller slices off a bit with his knife and hands some to both Owain and Aram.
Chewing the root now will give you a free healing point at the end of the scene
"We should focus on securing this place. If we can block the entrances, it may just buy me enough time to get the portal operational."

Okay, so you can probably tell what kind of scene this will be. "Night" is a reference to more than just the colour of the sky. The classic zombie siege is going to begin soon, and your chances may be improved greatly by your actions in the next few rounds before the zombies reach you.
In terms of gameplay, I've given you the layout of the house. Your job now is to set up as good a barrier as possible. The way I'm going to do this is have you describe your plans and actions, and I'll have you roll where appropriate. Searching for items in rooms means you aren't taking time to blockade the house, but you may find healing items or weapons that can be useful.
In any case, my threat level may change based upon your actions. Good luck, and if you have any questions, you know I'm here.

"Thank you," says Aram, chewing on the root. "Let's block those entrances quickly, then. Where is the nearest one? My muscles are up to the task." He sheathes his sword, slings his shield on his back, and begins moving and stacking furniture to blockade the exits.

"You two work on barricading the house. I will search for more healing items - we will need them." says Owain. "Gertwiller, where are the medicines most likely to be stored? My name is Owain, by the way."
As he waits for Gertwiller's response, Owain starts chewing the root. The taste is bitter, but the experienced herbalist has eaten worse.
Does this root interact with Gift of the Healer?

Yes, but only for you. You can't "administer" the root. Aram, let's do a skill roll to see about moving the furniture in such a way that it blocks the entrances. There are two doors into the house, as you can see by the floor plan. I'll let you decide which furniture you find. DC is 13. The more successes, the faster and more secure the job is.
"There should be several store rooms throughout the wayhouse. I wouldn't know exactly where to look. I suppose we're in this together, though, eh? I can help you look, if you'd like."
You gain Gertwiller as an ally! Profile coming soon.
In the meantime, everyone will probably want to meet on the OOC thread (or talk in character here) to discuss the best and most efficient ways to secure the house.

You can always take stress to get more dice or reroll the ones you've got!

Gregor eventually wandered up the stairs to see the others standing with a new person. Looking around, Gregor studied the contraptions that stood in front of him.
"Need any help?"

"Ah, there you are Gregor," says Owain. "You never answered me when I asked what happened to Sherri."

Gregor pottered about fiddling with the portal. He looked up at Owains question.
"Sherri..... was she the girl with the questions? I dont know, she asked me some questions... I answered them... then I was back here with the rest of you."
What kinda check can I make to look at this portal thingie and get it working or see if I recoginise its design? Its gonna be either a Skill or a Mental I presume, or some crazy combination of both![/color]

Although startled by Gregor's answer, Owain is aware that the imminent plague zombie attack is the group's immediate priority. He makes a mental note to examine the wizard for head injuries as soon as he gets a chance.
"We shall discuss this later, Gregor. Right now there is work to be done."
