LOL! Frankly, with all the travelling you've been doing lately and other time pressures I'm just glad you've been able to stay in the game.

I have noticed in general that the Dice Rolling thread has evolved into the game mechanics thread. Alba is probably more used to my inserting damage rolls into the story thread because of the past game. I did not this time around as most of the players took some kind of damage and I try to keep OOC/rules stuff in the Story Thread to a minimum. So yeah, watch for occasions when I reference the Dice Rolling thread.

Heh, I kinda forgot the Mechanics and Systems section of the forum exists. But since it hasn't been posted in since June I guess I'm not the only one.

No worries. In general, I do not think that thread was intended to be game-specific. Although I am not certain what else one might use it for, because it is generally not common to have two or more GMs completely agree on the same house ruling and so have it apply overall rather than in a game-by-game fashion.

Yeah, I established it as a just incase, for cross-gaming concerns or revelations about the system
It might find more traction when the new LW RPG comes out and people starting using it - where gaining some common consensus of how it works to communicate to Mongoose might be worthwhile.
Obviously, general questions can come up too, but then we still have the lorehall of light over at tots for that sort of thing
Al created the general question thread in the forum, but given the nature of the mechanics forum and how little it is posted on, actually spreading out each individual question might have been very acceptible instead of rolling it into one thread where the questions are lost once answered...

I just edited my last IC post. Ector and I tried something there, we PM'd each other back and forth IC to create a conversation which was just posted. Some fun RPing attempting to overcome one of the weaknesses inherent in a play by post game. We are lucky, though, as we are in the same time zone it makes doing such things a bit easier.

Indeed. Weekends help with that too. Thank you.

I empathize with ya there al! I tried to add some character depth with a dream sequence.

A comment on the conversation between Alba and Ector, as this is the sort of thing that generally starts the metaphorical vein throbbing in the forehead of your poor GM. It also really bothers players for any number of good and justifiable reasons.
Characters do not wear labels on their forehead that say "I am XXX class". No one in real life is just going to glance at me and say "he must be an engineer". There is nothing about me that particularly says that on a day-to-day basis. Such is the case with in-game player characters as well.
Sure, there are sometimes indicators of what a given character might be in particular circumstances. For instance, Ector in full armor and WITH heraldry will probably be identified as a warrior lord of some sort (considering his specialties and such, however, someone may or may not label him as a "knight"). If someone has ranks in Knowledge (nobility & royalty) or Knowledge (geography), or is from say Palmyrion or Talestria, they might even be able pin down Ector even further. Now, Alba on the other hand, is probably going to be a bit of a mystery. He does not wear identifying marks/heraldry. He has a countryside manner about him and, upon looking at him, the most anyone without a successful Knowledge (geography) is going to infer about him is that he is of central Magnamund background. A fellow countryman like Ector might recognize Alba as such, but culturally speaking, Palmyrion and Talestria (for instance) are not so very different. Even so, there may be more differences between a townsman of Garthen and a countryside Talestrian from the far north of the nation than there are differences between that same townsman of Garthen and a townsman of Vanamor (capital of Palmyrion), and the same is often going to be true of other nations as well (no matter how small).
Why am I expounding on this subject? Because various characters have backgrounds that you are each not going to have learned in the relatively short time your characters have known each other. Even the more forthcoming among you would not have told your companions everything. But more importantly, there is the problem of confusing out-of-character knowledge with in-character knowledge. The confusion that this can engender is even more pernicious in a play-by-post game than it is a conventional tabletop game (and it's a bad enough problem there).
In this specific case, Jynx does not have a label on her forehead that says "I am a sage." In point of fact, she is not a sage at all, in any definition of the term. We used the Sage of Lyris class as a basis to simulate her character's skills and abilities as a spy, but that is it. In character, she both looks and acts like a courtesan (unless one of you can cough up a Sense Motive skill check that can challenge her Bluff skills, and I am not placing any bets in any of your favors...okay, maybe Karsten's favor, but only because I know how Jynx's player occasionally rolls). If you have spent a while around her, perhaps you might figure out that she knows a fair amount (but then, if the character is from a relatively cosmopolitan background, such as either Ector or Zohar, then the realization that courtesans knowing a fair amount is not unusual). But the core of this was Alba saying Jynx is a sage. She's not. Karsten is a sage (partially). He is the only one in the group.

It looks like the group will be nominating the character with the best Gather Information skill (Jynx?) to visit the infirmary in search of any eyewitnesses to what happened in the library. In that case Ector will offer to accompany them as a bodyguard.

Maerin - I am not clear on what set your vein off. Was it the conversation or the fact we accidently metagamed (I believe that is the term used) vis-a-vis Jynx's class? I thought the conversation idea was good, but if you do not want us doing that sort of stuff in the future, no probs (and so you know, I do not read other's char sheets, so I just assumed she was a sage based off of past conversations throughout these posts!)

I think the problem was when you described Jynx as being a "sage", which Maerin deemed to be player knowledge rather than something Alba would have worked out for himself. I don't think he has any problem with IC chatter being conducted via PM.

No, and I am sorry if I was unclear. Your IM conversation was great and I hope to see more of just that sort of thing occur. If anyone wants to have such a conversation with an NPC and we can work it out time-wise (you UK time-zone-range folk may be a bit difficult for me to link up with), I will gladly do so.
Ector has the right of it. It was just one word in a general conversation, but misconception is often built on just that alone (particularly in a roleplaying environment like this one where what is posted often comprises the only IC and OOC things fellow players...and GM...have to work with). What made it even more of a problem is that, for sage-concept type stuff, Karsten is the more appropriate character to be thinking about and I do not want to see his character slighted at the expense of another one that is similar, but definitely not the same.
