This is the thread where I'll post any secret information. Basically a PM thread. You can, of course, respond in this thread to any information I give you.
We'll start with your secret history and goals.
In your travels across Magnamund, always away from your homeland in Shadaki, you've had many experiences... most of them bad. Adventuring has proved less glamorous than you'd hoped, and you've often been at risk of running low on cash and thus in danger of losing your expensive way of living.
To counter this, you take any job that comes your way. Even the unsavory ones. You just look at it as a way of life, and thus far nothing TOO bad has been offered. Mostly it's theft, and the occasional murder of someone (you generally label them assholes, so it makes it okay).
Worse is the company you generally end up keeping. Smelly Northerner scum, who don't know the joys of bathing or of massage or of a clean woman scented with the right perfumes... things you experienced every day in the South. And those were the good ones. The bad ones would rape defenseless women and children and then murder them. You remember a year ago watching one of these rapes in disgust. The woman was a dirty peasant, after all.
You take a certain pride in the fact that you don't partake in the same vulgar acts as the scum who you are forced into company with. Rape and murder without a reason is beneath you. You also value your freedom over anything else, and you've found the best way to keep it is to never stay in one place long.
With this attitude, you'd begun a slow but steady rise up the ladder of the underworld. Then, a couple months ago, you hit a caravan as one of your jobs. What you discovered was chests worth of gold and jewels, obviously some hoard of some guild.
Unfortunately, the guild turned out to be the powerful Merchant's guild of Sommerlund. Within weeks, everyone associated with the job started to disappear. You were left with the bounty. Knowing you couldn't keep such marked wealth hidden long, you did what came naturally to you: you spent it all. Quickly.
After two weeks of drunkeness and dizzying excess, you were left poor again... and free. Or so you thought. The merchant's guild found you as you were leaving Ragadorn. They offered you a choice: either pay them back with your internal organs, or do a job for them that would absolve you of all guilt.
Since you're still here, we'll assume you took the latter choice.
The merchant's town of Oasis was founded about thirty years ago using the power of a singular artifact, now a treasure guarded by the top echelons of the merchant's guild. The treasure was supposedly a finger of the god Kai himself, and had the ability to turn anything it touched into gold. It was with this treasure that the guild had built its fortune.
With the war, the guild had splintered, and now the different factions were seeking power. This particular faction, the Winds of Peace, which ironically controlled foreign interest via naval trade (some of these ships you'd stole from as a pirate), had decided that gaining the Finger of Kai was the best way for them to seize control.
The plague striking Oasis seemed to be the perfect opportunity for the Winds of Peace to steal the artifact. When the king called for help, the guild set you up as a scholar and healer who could benefit the investigation. Of course, this ruse won't hold long, but it won't matter once you're in Oasis.
Your mission? Steal the Finger of Kai from the Town Hall where it was kept in the center of the city and bring it to the Winds of Peace. Once done, you will be abstained from all guilt. In addition, you will be given two bags of gold for your trouble. However, no one else can know about the finger or its theft. Your fellow party members must be kept unawares of your goal.
Also, one of the members of your team is not what he or she seems. Winds of Peace isn't sure which guild this person belongs to, but they will be after the Finger themselves. They must be eliminated. This will be difficult, because they will be in disguise.
Of course, you must also keep up your own disguise. You are one of the underworld's agents, and you've been thrust together with loyal vassals of the king. If they discover who you really are, you won't last long. You'll be thrown in jail to rot... much like Vonotar the traitor.
Summary of Goal: steal the Finger of Kai without letting anyone else know of its existence. Kill the double agent who is working to steal it as well. Also, keep your identity as a Shadakin bandit a secret, lest it land you in the gallows.
