Sorry for taking so long to post this, it got erased once in an internet malfunction.
Basically, think of this as our PM thread for anything secret.
We'll start with history and goals.
Think of this as our PM thread. All secret stuff, whether you want to do it, or I'm giving you information, is put here.
We'll start with history and goals.
While many would describe your life as idealyic, there are secret sorrows you keep hidden from others. For one, you are a very lonely person, finding it hard to relate to people (probably a side effect of having been brought into the isolated order at such a young age). Tools, you find, are much easier to work with, doing what you want without complaining, and easily fixable when broken.
One joy in your life was your little sister, Rei. At 16, she was charmed by a Shadakine traveller and decided to run away with him. Though this made you dislike Shadakine, it wasn't until she was ransomed by that same man and his band of pirate fellows that you learned to hate the Southerners.
Though your parents paid the ransom immediately, what came back was not the sister you remembered. Her virginity forced from her, and her heart broken, your sister was barely a person anymore, and not a year later she decided life was a burden only death could remove and cast herself into the ocean. You'll never forget the sea bloated corpse that washed ashore at Toran's docks.
You've despised the Shadakine ever since, and have vowed revenge for your sister.
Despite this horror, you'd be the first to admit your life at the Brotherhood is a good one. Not only are you sheltered and provided for, but you are encouraged to sate your curiosity and love of experimentation in the Brotherhood labs. Your parents, though never recoveered from your sister's suicide, remain alive and well, and supportive.
The only thing you lack is real world experience.
It was with excitement, therefore, that you agreed to undertake a mission for the Brotherhood to Oasis, the merchant city of the Wildlands. Though only a mere four days from Holmgard, it seemed like a good chance to stretch your wings and perhaps pick up a trick or two on the road.
You didn't know the situation would be so dangerous. You didn't know Oasis had been struck by plague. You didn't expect to be one of the investigators sent to determine the cause and extent of the plague.
On the surface, you are being sent to represent the Brotherhood, both as a user of magic and a scholar and also as a guild friendly to the crown. But there are other reasons the Brotherhood is interested in Oasis, more complicated reasons.
For a few years, Oasis has acted as a sort've bank for the Brotherhood, investing their money in trade, and providing excellent return on investment, quickly building the Brotherhood coffers. Now, however, this money lies in the form of gold in a city under siege by plague. Your mission is to retrieve this gold, easily recognizable by the Stars and Pendants engraved on them, for the Brotherhood.
They don't expect you to carry it out on your back, of course. The gold had a powerful and complicated spell placed upon it, a spell of transportation that can be activated by holding a Crystal Star pendant and invoking the proper words of power. You've been taught these words. Upon reaching the depostory at the center of Oasis, you are to locate the gold and invoke the spell, transporting the wealth and yourself instantly back to Toran.
There's a catch, though. In order for the spell to activate, three special pieces of gold have to be present when the spell is cast. These pieces were given to trusted members of Oasis and have runes written on them (which you've memorized). You've been Oasis, the compass will activate and should point to the general location of the gold.
This would be hard enough, but the Brotherhood has also discovered a terrible secret. A few days ago a Cener Druid was captured. Put to torture, the Druid revealed that he and another were to infiltrate the group of investigators sent to Oasis.
This means one of your fellows is a Cener Druid.
Their goal is not clear, but most likely they are trying to use the plague for their own sinister purposes. They cannot be allowed to succeed. The foul impersonator must be located and destroyed.
Summary of goals: use the compass to locate the three pieces of gold, then bring them to the depository and activate the spell, taking you and the gold out of Oasis. Keep in mind that only the one who holds the Crystal Pendant will be transported. This represents an immediate entrance to the Toran guildhall. Therefore, be careful who learns this information.
Before you return, you also have to find and kill the Cener Druid who is one of the party members in disguise. Be wary.
Also, don't forget your hatred of the Shadakine. If you happen to encounter one in your journey, remember your sister's rape and suicide.
