Welcome to the playtest!
Everyone must create a Kai Lord character. Basically, if you have one of the gamebooks in front of you, roll up your Combat Skill and Endurance as normal, then choose five of the ten Kai Disciplines (create a character sheet for yourself, and please also include your CS, EP and Disciplines in your signature).
As for equipment, you begin with green cloak and tunic, a backpack, belt and belt pouch, and some money (pick a number from the Random Number Table and add 10 to find out how many Gold Crowns).
If you possess Weaponskill, you begin play with the weapon you are skilled in.
You may choose five items from the following list:
Bow (weapon) Broadsword (weapon) Chainmail Waistcoat (special item, +4 EP) Helmet (special item, +2 EP) Lantern (backpack item) Mace (weapon) Meal (backpack item) Potion of Laumspur (backpack item, resotres 4 EP) Quarterstaff (weapon) Quiver (special item; contains 12 arrows) Rope (backpack item) Shield (special item; +2 CS) Spear (weapon) Sword (weapon)
Normal limits apply on equipment.

Since our characters have as many Disciplines as Lone Wolf in FFTD, should we assume they are all around the same age as he was, ie 15 or so?

Either or; doesn't really matter in terms of the playtest.

The Stallion and I have identical disciplines. Perhaps I should trade Sixth Sense for Mind Over Matter?

Nah, lets keep em the same. Looks like we're playing our characters differently anyway.

Your guy is bigger than mine (rolled better stats) so will likely be picking more fights. It seems a shame to have nobody taking MoM though, years playing the gamebooks have apparently conditioned us to consider it the ugly stepchild of Kai Disciplines.

Heh, notice i took animal kinship on that basis of favouring an ugly step child - the original d30 character was more combat oriented and possessed sixth sense, this sun snake is npt comfortable with mental disciplines (hence no MoM)

MoM should be told to sit in the corner and think about what its done.
Or at least evolve into Nexus.
Hmmmm....Lone Wolf meets Pokémon.....interesting.
