The hairs on the back of Running Bear's and Raging Stallion's necks stand on end suddenly. You are being watched from just off the track.

"Quiet, my brothers! There is something watching us! Do you feel it to, Running Bear?"
Raging Stallion grips his weapons tightly, focusing on locating where the threat could be coming from.

Sun Snake crouches and scans the low scrub and treetops for anything unusual - sillouettes that do not belong, or foliage and animals acting contrary to the normal rhythms of the forest.
He tightens his hold on his axe, not wishing to swap weaponry and leave himself vulnerable

For those who wish to scan the woods, make a Test and add your bonus if you have Sixth Sense or Hunting.

Running Bear whispers to Raging Stallion, "It might be the Kakarmi, make no sudden moves." Senses straining, he tries to pinpoint their observer.

Both Sun Snake and Swift Otter detect the presence of two little, furry faced creatures peering out at you from behind some low bushes. You recognize them to be the Karkami whose tracks you have been following.

Sun Snakes looks to his companion Swift Otter, who he knows possesses similar learning. Sun Snake slowly lowers his axe to the groups, whispering the others should do the same.

Running Bear does as Sun Snake asks, watching intently as his comrades attempt to communicate with the furry creatures.

"Can anyone communicate with these creatures?" Raging Stallion looks around at his comrades. His own skills are limited to killing and healing, working with nature was never his forté....

Sun Snake nods when Swift Otter does not make motions to communicate. The creatures of the forest around were the first that Kai initiates are taught to speak with. However, those of intelligence have a more complex language.
"We mean you no harm. We are passing through to visit the high men outside this place, to get help to fight the evil thathas come here. Can you help us leave safely?"
Sun Snake hopes the simple words and honest meaning will be accepted.

After a few seconds, two small furry faces nervously appear over the top of the trunk. They say they are Kakarmi and tell you that the Kraan are everywhere. To the west lie the remains of their village but little is left of it now. They are trying to find the rest of their tribe who took to the forest when the ‘Black-wings’ attacked. They point behind them—east along the path—and tell you that the trail appears to be a dead end, but that if you continue through the undergrowth for a few yards more, you will find a watchtower where the path splits into three directions. Take the east path. This leads to the King's highway between the capital city—Holmgard—and the northern port of Toran.

Sun Snake bows and thanks them for their words, assuring them if the Kai spot more surviving Kakarmi the Kai will say they have seen the two kin.
Sun Snake repeats the directions given.

Fierce Kanu brightens at the word of a watchtower.
'Hopefully it hasn't been completely ransacked. We should make haste.'

The path continues eastwards but soon disappears into thick undergrowth. Realizing this is the dead end the kakarmi indicated, you cut your way through, where you find yourselves in a clearing where several trees have been cut down to make a rickety watchtower. Below the tower are three paths leading off in different directions - east, south and south west.
