"We were told to go east," says Running Bear. "But we may as well see if the tower gives a better view of the road ahead." With that, the young Kai approaches the tower.

Sun Snake shrugs his shoulders - he would be happy enough to get underway. However, he hooks the axe that he has been using to clear the forest to his belt and frees his sword and shield for action. The Kai looks to see i any of his more mentally aware companions can sense anything, while Sun Snake takes position to move in as scout - more mundane senses strained. Hunting Test (if needed) (1d10+2=7)

"Hold brother Running Bear, I do not believe we should tary any longer. Holmgard lies to the east, we should make haste".

"Viewing the forest from above seems to be an advantage that the enemy holds over us constantly. Using the opportunity for a better vantage point ourselves would seem to be a few moments well spent," says Swift Otter detachedly, looking around for a moment at the tower and the forest surrounding it before following Running Bear towards the structure.

The tower is old and looks in bad shape, but there is no signs of any fights having occured here or any Darkspawn that may have come here.
A rickety looking ladder leads up to the top of the tower.
[If anyone wants to climb the ladder, you must make a Test. However, according to the rules, you add your CS to the Random Number for climbing. This is something I bought up with Matt that I felt was a little werid... what about you guys?[/i]

Running Bear asks if any of his companions has a rope, then climbs the tower.

Sun Snake does not wait to hear if a rope is available, he is already moving with ease up the ladder, hoping it will take the weight...

Running Bear and SUn Snake both make it up the tower. Although the ladder creaks and growns it doesn't break and you make it up safely.
Anyone else heading up?

Running Bear takes a good look around from this elevated vantage point, in particular seeking signs that might indicate the safest route to Holmgard.

From the top of the tower you can see above the trees in all directions. Far to the north, a column of jet-black smoke rises high into the sky. Small orange tongues of flame flicker at its base. Your heart sinks as you realize that the port of Toran is ablaze. From the south east, the wind carries the noise of battle. It is close; no more than five miles at most. To the east you can see a break in the forest that indicates the King's Highway, the main road between Holmgard and Toran. You can also see the black shapes of kraan flying in the air some distance to the south east.

"Kai preserve us," says Running Bear, aghast. "Toran is burning! How many must die this day?"

Sun Snake looks gloomily towards the burning scene, he feels the destruction of the cities more keenly than the evidence of the ransacking of the outer lands of Sommerlund.
"I think we must do what we can to prevent further death. We must let the others know and figure our best path to the King. "

Running Bear nods. "We should consult with our brothers and decide what to do." With that he begins climbing back down to report his findings.
