You're still not quite sure how the wand works, so I can't tell you straight out if it'll even shoot ranged, or if it will turn you to dust when you hold it aloft. The bor pistol you could grab and fire... that would be a skill roll. The sword would be a combat roll. Because of your position, if you go melee combat, you can't use switch ups until your hand is free, which should be three rounds from now.

I'll probably use the Bor pistol in the first round., then switch to the sword. I won't be able to reload it one-handed anyway. It makes a lot of noise, which could attract unwanted attention, but it should also let my companions know where I am (and if I'm really lucky, it'll scare off the dog). What is the DC to hit? It can't be too bad, since the dog is close enough for me to hit with the sword. Also, what are the dog's stats, and how much damage does the Bor pistol do? Just one per success, or does it have a bonus?

I'm going to set the DC at 10 for the dog being so close. You've never used the weapon before, so it's not as easy as it could be. Make it with both dice, and there will be a bonus.

Ah, shit, man. You might want to use stress to reroll that, at least one die so it's not a failure.

I would recommend it. Especially since all you need is a 10 to hit the dog and probably kill it or at least frighten it long enough for you to free your hand. This is the situation stress was built for.

Aram had to force himself to take his time with the shot. He didn't think about what would happen if he waited too long. He simply refused to fire until he was sure it would do the most damage.
It felt like minutes in his mind, but only a second after drawing the pistol he pulled the trigger. In the next second, the blast had blown into the creature's exposed brain, splattering the walls and ceiling (and Aram's face) with gore. With a hissing whimper, the dog fell to one side, dead.
In a few moments more, Aram was able to pull his arm from the wall and examine the damage. His arm was fine, but his hand had been fused, it seemed with the rock. He doubted he'd ever be able to restore its function. Thankfully, his training with the broadsword made the extra weight of the stone bearable for his arm. In some ways, he now had a new weapon in his arsenal, though he would no longer be able to wield two handed weapons of any sort.

There had better be some magic that can restore my hand, thinks Aram bitterly.Maybe the priest can help. Or even the mage. Perhaps I'll hold off on killing him - for now. He reloads the Bor pistol and replaces it in his backpack. Well, it's mine now. He then puts the pack on his back and the sword on his belt before going over to the look inside the drawers. He doesn't want to spend too much time in this room in case the shot attracted unwanted attention, but his curiosity will not allow him to leave before he checks.

We'll handle this the old fashioned way... what do you WANT to be inside the desks?

Alright... let's roll a single die... we'll call it the FATE die. Let's make it a d6, and if you roll a 6, some really good stuff will come your way. Less than that and some less good stuff.

You find a single potion which you instantly recognize as being an Alether potion of superior quality. Drinking this will give you nine dice (total, not extra) for the first four rounds of any combat. There's only enough for a single dose.
Roll skill real quick
Your search over, you move to the open door where the dog came through and peer out into a cramped dark hallway. You'll probably want one of those torches along to light your way.
